Typically the weather in "Crane Country" is sunny and warm after the fourth of July.  This trend continues through August.  Prior to and after this period, it is advisable to layer.  This means several shirts of the synthetic fiber variety and a pair of silk or poly/cotton long johns as well.  June is our rainy month, so a Gortex jacket is recommended.  Please do not forget hats , glasses, gloves, sunscreen and any other personal items.  Each boat comes equipped with a dry bag for cameras, binoculars and the like.  C.M.G.S is a full service outfitter, as such, waders and rain wear can be provided.

Fishing gear and tackle are available for use, and for sale, from C.M.G.S's supplier WiseFlies.com, but we realize that familiarity with one's personal equipment enhances the experience, in which case we encourage bringing whatever might be desired.

A Montana fishing license is required, and the Fish Wildlife and Parks (FWP.mt.gov) has made it convenient to purchase online.

The website above lists current license costs as well as other points of interest. A license may be attained when you arrive to C.M.G.S country, and we would be happy to assist you with this; but remember to have a picture ID in your possession, and for those without, a social security number is necessary. Remember that persons under 14 years of age, that are not Montana residents, are not required to have a license, provided they are accompanied by a license-carrying adult.
